Running The Race
Here's an encouraging article by Dr. John MacArthur on the importance of pursuing Christlikeness and running the Christian race faithfully. He describes an incident when he was running the second leg for the track relay team in college. He passed the baton onto runner number three who suddenly stopped running, left the track and sat down.
Thinking he'd become injured MacArthur went over to him and asked him what happened. "All he said was, 'I don't know - just didn't feel like running today.' " Dear Christian, if you've become tired and have stopped running, let me extend a hand to help you back onto your feet. It's never too late to begin again, ask your gracious Lord to forgive you and He'll give you the strength to get back in the race!
May we all take encouragement from this as Dr. MacArthur tells us: "One summer while visiting Europe, I came across a famous gravestone at the foot of one of those majestic mountains in the Alps. Underneath the individual's name the epitaph reads, 'He died climbing.' That ought to be your attitude as you pursue Christ. When it's time for the Lord to call you home, you ought to be pursuing Him."
